A deep and warm earth color, similar to a deep scarlet, Venetian Red is opaque and lightfast with a smooth and consistent texture. This pigment comes from the southern Italian Alps, which is a rich source of very old earth pigments preserved by overlapping volcanic rock. It consists almost completely of ferric oxide derived from hematite, a crystalline-structured mineral form of iron(lll) oxide.
Sophie says: “This earthy pigment feels warm and comforting. Matte and opaque with smooth granulation, Venetian Red is a nice addition to any palette.”
